Planning Ahead

There are good reasons to think about planning end of life events with near family members. Just as a Will is an essential record of your wishes, planning a funeral is a major benefit for those who deal with a loss.

Three key aspects to consider with funeral planning

1

Recording wishes

A Pre-arranged Funeral record.

2

Fixing the Cost

Pre-paying a funeral.

3

Selecting a Site

Purchasing a plot.

Pre-arranged Funerals

When you pre-arrange a funeral, your wishes are recorded and put on file until when it is needed. Bet-Olam stores a copy of the information but it is important to have a copy given to key family members. There is no cost for this service.

Pre-paid Funerals

Pre-paying for a funeral allows you to fix the future cost of an agreed funeral service to current prices. This avoids the worry of the effect of any future cost increases that occur over time.

Advantages of buying a Funeral Bond

  • Fixing the funeral price

  • An exemption from Asset and Income Tests

  • Reduces stress for your family

  • Guarantees your wishes are carried out

In Victoria, pre-paid funerals are protected by government legislation under the Funerals (Pre-paid Money) Act 1993. The Act restricts the way pre-paid funeral monies can be invested so that your money is protected, even if a funeral director ceases to operate. The money is held securely in trust, with records kept by Bet-Olam and recommended to be held by key family members or the executor. When the time comes, Bet-Olam arranges the funeral payment directly with the Funeral Bond managers, reducing the burden on family during a difficult time.

Purchasing a Burial Plot

Purchasing a burial plot is a significant issue that is best considered as part of planning. Some key decisions that you might need to consider are.

  • The location of the Plot.
  • Will more than one person be interred in the plot.
  • Whether more than one plot is needed for family reasons

Bet-Olam Jewish Funerals can assist in guiding you through these decisions. In this way your family is relieved of additional emotional stress at an emotional time .

Bequests

Planned giving, preserving our heritage, ensuring our future

I found a fruitful world because my ancestors planted it for me.
So, too, will I plant for my children.

Babylonian Talmud – Ta’anit 23a
